Business-as-usual (BAU) forecasting and interventions estimator tool

This resource forms part of the Catapult’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Guidance, a collection of free tools developed to support public sector organisations in reducing emissions across their built estate.

By using this tool, you can gain insight into your current energy usage, projected future demand, associated costs, and carbon emissions, providing a strong evidence base for planning decarbonisation activities. By modelling the impact of different interventions, the tool helps identify opportunities for carbon and cost savings while supporting more resilient energy strategies and informed investment decisions.

How the tool works

The tool works through a straightforward process that allows you to build up a clear picture of your estate and its performance over time.

Begin by creating your projects
Then add and manage detailed data for your sites and buildings
Analyse outputs through both business-as-usual forecasts and future intervention scenarios.
Finally, download the data for further use, whether that’s for reporting, internal analysis, or supporting business cases.

In addition, the tool provides a centralised space for storing and managing your building and site data, making it easier to keep information organised and up to date. Its analytical capabilities allow you to compare scenarios and assess how different approaches may affect outcomes over time. You can also export your data, giving you flexibility to carry out additional analysis or integrate findings into wider strategic planning and decision-making processes.
