Are you ready to get under the hood of Local Area Energy Planning and see how it really works?

Join us for a dynamic and practical Net Zero Planning Masterclass Series, developed as part of the Ready for RESP programme and delivered by Energy Systems Catapult on behalf of the North West Net Zero Hub.

In this series, we’ll demystify the process behind local energy plans – unpacking the data, revealing key assumptions, and walking you through how outputs are generated. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how these tools can inform real-world decisions and drive your Net Zero goals.

The series delves into three topics: buildings, transport, and generation and storage. Below is the webinar content from the Buildings Net Zero Planning Masterclass.

Buildings: Domestic, commercial, and public

Explore how buildings fit into the bigger picture of energy system planning. We’ll go deep into the data and show you how this information is used in Local Area Energy Planning.

1. Buildings: What is the Ready for RESP programme?

The Ready for RESP 2025 programme – funded by DESNZ and commissioned by the Local Net Zero Hubs – is a programme aimed at supporting local authorities to get involved and shape the incoming Regional Energy Strategic Plans. It will help ensure the necessary energy infrastructure is in place to meet local and national Net Zero and economic growth ambitions. Hear more on what is coming up to help empower local involvement and action.

2. Buildings: Net Zero planning approaches

You’ve set a target to decarbonise, but how do you do it? That is where data, modelling, and getting a plan come in. More areas across the UK are seeing the value of understanding their current energy system and are helping to shape it for the future. In this session, we hear from a colleague within the Catapult’s expert modelling team on what is needed in a whole-systems plan to support local action.

3. Buildings: Retrofit, data, and why buildings matter in the energy transition

Whether we’re looking at what data is available and needed to make building decisions or whether we’re dealing with domestic or non-domestic buildings – in this deep dive session, we explore the challenges around decarbonising the nation’s building stock.

4. Buildings: Learnings to date from buildings and data requirements

One size doesn’t fit all, as we all know. So, what are some of the challenges around decarbonising buildings and what experiences have people had based on real-life examples? As part of delivering Local Area Energy Plans across more than 30 locations, the Catapult’s modelling team has seen several examples and delves into some of them in this video.
