A web-based actor and resource map of initiatives within the built environment around circular economy.
Technological advancements of the modern world have given individuals immense access to knowledge. However, with this access and the ability to share it comes the noise of billions of voices. This digital fog of information can make it difficult to fully understand and navigate the landscape of a topic. A consequence of this is that organisations are, often at their own expense, unnecessarily repeating the work of their peers and competitors.
For the built environment to become fully circular, it must collectively act to share information and work together to create the change required. UKGBC's mission is to work together for a better built environment, as such we have created a web-based actor and resource map of initiatives within the built environment around circular economy. The purpose of which is to allow organisations to use existing knowledge and methodologies to successfully implement circular economy principles without repeating the work of others.
About the map
Elements
The map is made up of four types of elements: organisations, organisation types, initiatives, and barriers addressed, these are represented by the circles. By clicking on the elements, you will open a descriptive information panel on the left, these contain links to further information.
Connections
The elements are linked to each other through connections, shown here as loops. For example, where an organisation is working on an initiative, the two are connected. By hovering over an element, you can see all of its connections more clearly.
Clustering
By clicking the buttons located at the top centre of the map, it is possible to temporarily add or remove different elements. This can also be done to see which organisations featured in the map are members of UKGBC.
Navigation
You can navigate the map using the mouse curser by clicking and dragging the map. It is possible to zoom in and out through either double clicking, scrolling on the mouse, or using the plus and minus symbols in the top right.
Colour coding
The elements have all been colour coded for ease of view, this categorisation is shown in the key. All initiatives are coloured gold. To allow quick identification of different organisation types within the built environment, they have been grouped together.
