The UK Green Building Council (UK GBC) has produced a framework for a Net Zero carbon built environment, developed by businesses, non-profit organisations, and trade associations.
This resource hub provides the latest information on UKGBC's net zero carbon buildings framework, which is a series of guidance documents. As the industry evolves, new guidance on how to apply the Framework can be found here.
The framework consists of key principles and metrics that can be integrated into policy and utilised as a tool by businesses to contribute towards achieving a Net Zero carbon built environment.
The framework follows five key steps:
- Establishing a Net Zero carbon scope
- Reducing construction impacts
- Reducing operational energy use
- Increasing renewable energy supply
- Offsetting any remaining carbon.
The framework looks at two approaches as it goes through these five steps: Net Zero carbon – construction and Net Zero carbon – operational energy. A third approach – Net Zero carbon – whole life – will be developed in the future.
